About the Piece

This piece was inspired, in part, by an Indian sculpture of a woman giving birth to a serpent.  For me, this symbolizes woman giving birth to wisdom.

The piece is a stylized yoni/vulva giving birth to a woman who is in turn giving birth to a serpent. The outer frame is in the shape of a mandorla/yoni.  The outer lips of the vulva are shown as the wheel of life, or key pattern, and the inner folds of the vulva are a swirling area that is convulsing with birth.
